LED - What is that anyway?
The abbreviation LED stands for light-emitting diode. Light-emitting diodes serve as semiconductor elements, which emit various forms of light when electric current flows through them. The main element of the LED is the semiconductor crystal, from which reflectors receive its emitted light and amplify it.
LED Strips
LED strips have become more and more popular in recent years. Why? LED lights provide great lighting effects in the house and apartment and are also relatively easy to install. Another reason is the low prices. Unlike in the past, LEDs have become relatively inexpensive.
Nowadays, there is a wide range of LED strips on the market. Whether monochrome or colorful, there are now countless varieties of LEDs. The popularity of LED strips is due to their easy installation and wide range of applications. Especially as decorative lighting, the LEDs can be easily retrofitted.
Our DURAL LED strips fit into all our DURAL LED tile profiles. Like the tile profiles, you can shorten the LED strips to the right length to fit your home perfectly.
Shorten LED strips
led strip detailLED strips are built up into many small segments. This is a great advantage when you want to cut them, for example. We offer LED strips in 1m, 1.5m, 2.5m and 5m. For ease of use, the strips are on a roll, which makes them easy to install.
The LED strip can be cut between two segments and shortened to the required length. The beginning and end of a segment are marked with a cutting mark. Our LED strips can be adjusted at 5 cm intervals. Here, however, it is important that you only cut at the marked points, otherwise it may happen that nearby LEDs no longer light up.
The place where you are allowed to cut is between the two dashed lines on the copper.
How long is a segment?
Our segment length is about 5 cm. That means every 5 cm you can separate the LED strips. Our LED strips have 240 LEDs per meter.
To shorten the LED strip to the right length, we recommend using normal household scissors. These should be clean, so that the contact surfaces do not get dirty.
What happens when you cut between the cut marks?
All LEDs within a segment are electrically connected in series. If you cut the LED strip outside the cut mark, the LEDs of the segment would no longer light up. Therefore, always pay close attention to the cut mark so that no valuable LEDs are lost.
Extending LED strips
led stripNot only the shortening of LED strips is possible, but also the extension or connection. This is possible, for example, with our DURAL LED connecting cable. This cable is used, for example, when installing LED strips in the area of stairs. It allows you to make a connection between the LED strips to each step of the stairs.
Please note: When connecting strips, it is important to pay attention to the polarity, for this purpose the + and - markings can be seen on the strip.
Laying LED strips
Our LED strips are designed to be used in conjunction with DURAL LED tile profiles and DURAL LED covers. Therefore, the installation of the tile profile is clearly in the foreground. You can then cut the LED strip to fit or extend it, depending on the situation.
But before you lay the strip or even cut it to size, you should first check whether all the lights work and lay them out on a trial basis. This way you can check if the length fits and where you need to make any changes.
Laying LED strip around the corner
You can also lay an LED strip around the corner. Here, however, it is important to note that the strip must not be bent, as this could break the conductors or solder joints.
Fixing LED strips
LED strips can of course be used in conjunction with our LED tile profiles, or just like that. The LED strips are self-adhesive and stick to many smooth surfaces, such as glass, wood, metal or stone. Before sticking, it is important to clean the surface well.
If they are installed with the LED tile profiles, the strips can be simply glued into the support bar of the profiles.
Connect LED strips
Dural LED connection setTo make the whole thing light up at all, it needs the right technology. We have the DURAL LED connection set in our range. This includes a powerful transformer, a radio receiver suitable for the control element and the wiring harness required for connection.
Look forward to it when you switch on the LED elements for the first time. Especially the play between the individual lighting effects (dimmable) enhances the room by quite a bit.
Conclusion
LED strips are great. They not only make great lighting effects, no they have also become cheaper. In combination with LED tile profiles, it definitely needs a professional, because sometimes it can get a little complicated when laying them. Nevertheless, we are always happy to recommend them. It creates beautiful lighting effects by adjusting the light heat and brightness, giving the room a very special ambience.
