Sealing mats: Reliable protection against moisture and movement

An essential component of many construction and renovation projects is the effective sealing of buildings and other structures to prevent moisture intrusion. Waterproofing mats offer a proven solution to provide this protection. We offer a variety of waterproofing mats. You will find self-adhesive waterproofing mats, waterproofing mats with decoupling effect and, for example, the DURAL ET-S sealing mat. Each variant offers specific advantages and application possibilities to meet individual requirements.

Our range of sealing mats

Self-adhesive sealing mats: Simple and efficient

Our self-adhesive sealing mat WS enables fast and uncomplicated installation. An extra-wide sealing mat of 1.0 m forms the basis of the sealing system, which is simple and easy to install with a special squeegee. Thanks to the polyethylene material, the sealing mat is flexible and stretchable, adapts optimally to the smallest of irregularities and thus ensures optimum sealing. The self-adhesive properties facilitate the application and save valuable time during the construction phase.

Sealing mats with decoupling effect: protection against stresses and cracks

For areas where, in addition to sealing, a decoupling function is also required, the following are available Sealing mats with decoupling effect are the ideal solution. These special mats are usually made of durable polypropylene and feature a unique structure. This allows freedom of movement and can absorb stresses and cracks in the substrate. By protecting against damage from movement, decoupling waterproofing mats provide an ideal solution for flooring and tile in high-traffic areas.

Our high-performance composite waterproofing and decoupling system is ideal for use with ceramic and natural stone flooring in both interior and exterior applications. Since tile and natural stone flooring is not inherently waterproof and cracks may appear in the substrate when renovating old surfaces, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to ensure a safe and moisture-proof covering. Our innovative waterproofing and decoupling mat offers a solution to these challenges.

The mat's special three-layer structure combines bonded waterproofing with outstanding crack-bridging properties. This makes the waterproofing mat suitable for areas with high moisture loads indoors. Our product is used on surfaces in public and private areas that are exposed to direct or indirect stress. It is particularly suitable for rooms where water is frequently worked with or cleaned, such as environments of swimming pools and shower facilities. Outdoors, the waterproofing mat meets the requirements of exposure class B0, which means that it can be used on directly and indirectly exposed surfaces such as balconies and terraces (not above used rooms).

Our waterproofing mat has been tested as a reliable waterproofing membrane in combination with tile and slab coverings and meets the requirements for building waterproofing against non-receding water under high stress. It is therefore ideal for wet rooms in public and commercial areas.

DURAL ET-S sealing mat: Robust protection for demanding environments

The DURAL ET-S sealing mat is a high quality polypropylene waterproofing mat specifically designed for areas subject to heavy mechanical loads. This sealing mat offers excellent resistance to chemicals and provides reliable protection against moisture. Our ET-S sealing mat is a system component of our ETAG-approved waterproofing system for bathrooms and wet rooms. All system components can be used throughout Europe without hesitation thanks to their ETAG testing and are approved for water impact classes from "W0-1 "low" up to and including "W3-1 "very high". The ET-S sealing mat has an imprint for dimensionally accurate cutting for easier processing.

Instructions for processing:

  1. The substrate must be dry, dust-free, load-bearing and level. Any leveling measures must be completed before laying ET-S components.
  2. Tile adhesive is applied in sections to the properly prepared and primed substrate using a toothed trowel 4 x 4 mm.
  3. Place the ET-S sealing mat cut to size on the adhesive and press down without bubbles. Sealing membranes must be laid with an overlap of at least 5 cm. The overlap must be bonded watertight with Flex310 M Classic polymer adhesive. Alternatively, the membranes can be butt-jointed and waterproofed with ET-S sealing tape and Flex 310 M Classic.
  4. The accessory components ET-S outside corners, ET-S inside corners and ET-S sealing sleeves are laid in a similar way. Care must be taken to ensure an overlap of at least 5 cm and sealing with Flex 310 M Classic.
  5. Afterwards, the tiles can be laid directly onto the mat using the thin-bed method without waiting time.

Difference between polypropylene & polyethylene

The main difference between waterproofing mats made of polypropylene and polyethylene lies in the properties and use of the two materials. Here are some differences:

Polypropylene is usually more chemically resistant than polyethylene. It is more resistant to various chemicals, including acids, alkalis and solvents. Therefore, polypropylene waterproofing mats are better suited for areas where increased chemical resistance is required. Polypropylene is also more temperature resistant than polyethylene. It can withstand higher temperatures without losing its structural integrity. In contrast, polyethylene is more susceptible to deformation and melting at high temperatures. So, if high temperatures are a concern in the application, polypropylene sealing mats are a better choice. Polypropylene is generally stiffer and stronger than polyethylene. It offers greater strength and stability, making it a good choice for applications that require increased mechanical loads. Polyethylene, on the other hand, is more flexible and can conform better to uneven surfaces. Polyethylene is widely used and is generally less expensive than polypropylene. It is a commonly used material in a variety of industries and applications, while polypropylene meets more specific requirements in some cases and can therefore be slightly more expensive.

When choosing between polypropylene and polyethylene waterproofing mats, the specific requirements of the project should be considered. When higher chemical resistance, temperature resistance or strength is required, polypropylene is the preferred option. If flexibility and cost are more important and the requirements are not as demanding, polyethylene may be a suitable choice. It is advisable to review the manufacturer's product information and seek expert advice, if necessary, to find the best possible waterproofing solution.
