In wet rooms, durable composite sealings for tile coverings are exposed to a wide variety of demands. Level-access showers with and without splash protection, open and closed bath areas, floor drains and wall connections are classified into 4 classes according to DIN 18534-5, depending on the potential risk of damage. Although this classification is useful, it can easily lead to ambiguities in practice regarding which specific requirements must be considered, especially when different water exposure classes occur in one room.
To address this problem, DURAL has developed the DURABASE ET-S waterproofing system, which meets all the requirements of the standard, regardless of the defined water exposure class for the respective area. Even if the water exposure class changes during renovation or expansion, the compliant composite waterproofing remains intact, as DURABASE ET-S also meets the increased requirements up to class W3-I. Our ET-S waterproofing system was specifically developed to meet the requirements of DIN 18534-5 for the composite waterproofing of interior spaces. It offers a variety of accessories such as shaped parts and sealing tapes to meet the standard specifications up to water exposure class W3-1. With ET-S, both private bathrooms and public shower facilities and commercial kitchens can be comprehensively sealed to withstand the stresses of utility and splash water. Special components are available for various installation situations, enabling fast and yet compliant execution. The range includes sealing membranes, sealing tapes for covering joints and for wall and floor connections, sealing cuffs in various sizes, and corners (e.g. , DURAL ET-S sealing corner ) for special areas such as showers and bathtubs.

The system is complemented by the DURAL ET-S cut protection strip to protect the sealing in maintenance joints. If required, the DURAL ET-S sound insulation strip can be used to reduce noise transmission. An essential component of the system is the DURAL ET-S adhesive sealant , which was specially developed for the permanently waterproof connection of the overlaps required by the standard. The DURAL ET-S sealing membrane can be laid as easily as other mat systems in the tile adhesive bed. To offer installers maximum flexibility, numerous adhesive brands have been tested and approved as part of the system guarantee. The criteria of the European regulations 022-2 and the requirements of DIN 18534-5 were already taken into account during product development. After extensive testing, ET-S was confirmed with report number 2.1/13821/1088.0.1-2017 that it has passed all tests and meets the high requirements.
In wet rooms, durable composite waterproofing of tiled surfaces faces diverse requirements. Floor-level showers with and without splash protection, open and closed tub areas, floor drains, and wall connections are classified into 4 classes according to DIN 18534-5, depending on the risk of damage. Although this classification is useful, it often leads to confusion in practice regarding which specific requirements must be considered in a particular case, especially when different water exposure classes meet in one room. ET-S is a waterproofing system that meets all standard requirements, regardless of the definition of the respective area. Even if the water exposure class changes during renovation or extension work, a compliant composite waterproofing is guaranteed, as ET-S also meets the increased requirements up to class W3-I.
To ensure the effectiveness of the sealing, the sheets should be laid first, followed by the accessory components (corners, cuffs) using flexible adhesive. The order in which the walls and floor are treated is irrelevant.
To comply with the ETA, the use of the system components (including adhesive products) is required.
