Transition profiles - For a seamless transition between different floor coverings

What are transition profiles suitable for?

Kitchen transition profile

Transition or transfer profiles are suitable for transitions between doors and almost any floor covering, whether tiles, carpet, laminate or vinyl. They don't compromise on durability or attractive appearance. Transition profiles are tile strips used to create a seamless connection between two different floor coverings that meet. Typically, transition profiles are installed between two types of flooring such as wood and tile, carpet and tile, or laminate and carpet.

Using transition profiles offers several advantages. The profile provides an aesthetically pleasing solution for bridging transitions between different floor coverings. In addition to their aesthetic benefits, transition profiles can also help protect the edges of floor coverings from wear and tear or damage. Furthermore, they prevent tripping hazards by creating a level, smooth surface that provides a safe and comfortable walking surface. Transition profiles are indispensable in floor design and enable a seamless and effective connection between different floor coverings. They are therefore a significant component in creating a harmonious overall look. It is important that the transition profile is not only functional but also aesthetically appealing. After all, it should not only connect the different floor coverings but also form a visual unity.

Transition profiles can be made from various materials, such as aluminum, stainless steel, brass or plastic. They are available in different designs and colors to meet various requirements and needs.

Transition profiles in our product range

We have a variety of transition profiles in our range. We broadly categorize them into T-shaped transition profiles, flat transition profiles, and multi-transition profiles. Whether self-adhesive or screw-mounted, we have a wide range of products for every construction situation.

We offer transition profiles in the following materials:

  1. Aluminum
  2. Stainless steel
  3. Brass

Multi-transition profiles

Transition profile

These profiles usually consist of a 2 or 3-part profile system with a screw-fastened top profile, a plastic hinge or clip, and a base profile. They are suitable for finishing laminate and parquet flooring to adjacent coverings, for expansion joints, as transition profiles, and for wall connections. A plastic hinge connects the top profile to the base profile fixed to the floor, allowing for stepless movement in both height and inclination. This allows the profile to always adapt to the respective flooring without tedious readjustment. In our shop, you have a wide selection of multi-transition profiles suitable for different flooring heights. The profiles are suitable for flooring heights of 7-17 mm. We offer these transition profiles for easy click-on installation or with screw fastening, e.g., the Multi-Transition Profile Aluminum Silver .

You can choose between the colors silver, champagne, and titanium.

Transition profiles T-shape

You can choose from three materials: stainless steel, aluminum, and brass, with widths of 14 and 25 mm. These transition profiles are also ideally suited for separating or connecting two different floor coverings where there are no or only marginal height differences. Their shape allows for easy installation without special tools. Therefore, the T-form aluminum silver transition profile, for example, is particularly well-suited for retrofitting.

Brass T-profiles can withstand heavy loads, but the material oxidizes in the air, especially in high humidity. Over time, the visible surface becomes coated with patina (an oxide layer), changing its appearance.

For the T-profiles, a wide range of colors is available. For aluminum, you can choose between silver, gold, and titanium; for stainless steel, you can choose between natural, polished, and brushed finishes. Brass profiles are available in chrome-plated or polished finishes.

Flat transition profiles

Classic flat transition profiles are often used under doors or for visual room separation. With these profiles, you can choose whether you prefer to glue them or screw them in – this makes installing these strips particularly easy.

Cover profiles (e.g. the FLEX aluminum silver self-adhesive cover profile) also belong to the flat transition profiles and can be retrofitted to walls and floors, bridging wide joints or cracks. The tile strips are available in self-adhesive, single-sided drilled, and undrilled versions. The visible width of the cover profile can be selected from 60 - 120 mm, noting that the 60 mm strips have a narrow, smooth surface, while the wider versions have a grooved, profiled surface. Here you also have the choice between silver anodized and natural, untreated surfaces. The tile strip also reduces impact and airborne noise transmission.

Application of transition profiles (T-shape)

Transition profile

Due to their T-shape, they can be easily installed afterwards. No tools are required. They are simply pressed into a silicone-filled joint; different substrates play no role. The T-profiles connect ceramic and parquet, natural stone, concrete and/or laminate. The edges are covered so extensively that the edge areas of the flooring cannot be damaged.

Aluminum profiles can be used where no unusual chemical reactions are expected. To avoid corrosion, careful handling of cement materials is absolutely necessary. As the name suggests, anodized aluminum is specially refined; the surface should normally not change. However, the visible surfaces must also be protected against cement materials. Damage can occur to the surface from scratching or abrasive objects.

Stainless steel is particularly suitable for areas exposed to high levels of chemicals and acids. They also meet the highest mechanical standards. Stainless steel profiles are used, for example, in the food industry, hospitals, swimming pools, and in the catering industry.

Processing

  1. Clean the joint cavity.
  2. After that, the joint cavity must be filled with one-component silicone.
  3. Press the T-profile into the joint until it is completely flush with the floor covering.
  4. Remove silicone that is overflowing from under the edges with cleaning agents.
